Wooden Bar Stool Models
A wooden bar stool is a seating solution with a frame made of solid wood, designed for use at high surfaces such as kitchen island counters and bar tables. It provides a warmer look compared to models with metal or plastic frames and creates a natural harmony with the wooden cabinets, countertops, or table surfaces in a kitchen. As Kastra, we manage every stage of the wooden bar stool models we have been producing since 2011, from the type of wood to its polish. On this page, you will find the details regarding the materials and craftsmanship that make wooden bar stools long-lasting.
Material and Craftsmanship
Kiln-Dried 1st Class Beech
The most defining element of a wooden bar stool is the wood used. Our models are produced from 1st-class beech wood, the moisture content of which has been reduced to the lowest level through kiln-drying. Since a bar stool has longer legs than a standard chair, the load and strain on the frame are greater. The rigid structure of kiln-dried beech helps the stool maintain its form over time despite having long legs. Kiln-dried wood also "works" (expands/contracts) less in areas like kitchens where humidity and temperature fluctuations are frequent.
Why is Wood Type Important for Long-Legged Frames?
In a bar stool, the load is carried along a long lever rather than short legs close to the ground. When a seated person shifts their weight to one side, the tension created at the leg joints is higher than that of a standard-height chair. Therefore, the wood type of a wooden bar stool directly determines the product's lifespan in commercial use. In models produced from softwoods, this tension leads to loosening at the joints over time.
Filling, Polish, and Surface Durability
Surface treatment determines the wood's durability in daily use. Because we apply filling and polishing processes to the wooden parts, the surface is highly resistant to scratching. On a stool frequently used at a counter, the footrest area and seat edges are the points of most contact; the polish protects these areas as well. You can determine the polish color according to your order. Due to the nature of natural wood, color and texture differences may be seen in each product.
Wooden Bar Stool Models
Our wooden bar stool models are distinguished by their form and usage style. The Wishbone model features a backrest woven with natural cane; the frame measures 55x55x105 cm and weighs 7 kg. The Allen model provides higher back support with its 55x56x112 cm dimensions and 8.9 kg weight. The Melua model, on the other hand, makes it easy to change direction without getting up from the counter, thanks to its swivel structure.
The Difference Between Cane Back, High Back, and Swivel Forms
The three forms correspond to three different usage styles. The Wishbone with a cane back is visually light, so it does not block the area behind a kitchen island; this is why it is preferred in open-plan kitchens. Allen's high frame, reaching 112 cm, provides broader support for the back and stands out for long sessions. The swivel structure of the Melua is useful in layouts where you frequently change direction between the counter and the living area.
Why is Weight Important?
In a bar stool, weight means both stability and ease of use. Values such as 7 kg and 8.9 kg indicate that the chair has sufficient weight to prevent tipping, while still being light enough to be pulled out with one hand during cleaning. In establishments where chairs are lifted onto the counter at the end of the day, this range offers a practical balance.
Selecting the Height
Selecting the height is the first step with a wooden bar stool. Models with a seat height of 65 cm are suitable for kitchen island counters, while 75 cm is appropriate for high bistro and bar tables. We recommend measuring the height of your counter or bar table before purchasing and choosing the model accordingly. For models in different materials and a detailed height guide, you can view ourbar stoolpage.
The Distance Between Counter and Stool
The gap left between the counter and the seat surface determines most of the comfort. We suggest a gap of approximately 25-30 cm between these two surfaces. If the difference is less than this, the legs will not fit comfortably under the counter; if it is more, the arms will remain high, making long sessions tiring. After measuring your counter height, you can subtract this difference to find the target seat height.
How Many Are Needed for a Kitchen Island?
The number of chairs is determined by the length of the free edge of the counter. In our project planning, we base our calculations on approximately 60 cm of counter edge per person. Accordingly, three chairs work comfortably along a 180 cm island edge; trying to fit a fourth creates shoulder contact. This allowance increases slightly for models with armrests. For counter sections that turn a corner, we recommend placing chairs on the straight edges rather than at the corner.
Usage Areas
Home Use
In home use, wooden bar stools are preferred for breakfast and daily use in kitchen island and American-style kitchen layouts. The warm texture of wood integrates the bar line that separates the kitchen from the living room with the rest of the house. Cane-backed models stand out in kitchens wanting a light appearance, while high-backed models are preferred for counters used for long periods. Matching the same polish tone with your dining room chairs connects the two areas.
Commercial Use
In commercial use, wooden bar stools are preferred for creating a warm atmosphere in cafes, restaurants, and hotel bars. The kiln-dried beech frame offers a long-lasting structure for these venues used throughout the day. For project-based work, we can produce a large number of chairs in the same model and polish tone. For projects where the bar line and high tables are planned together, you can check ourbar table modelsto solve the dimension compatibility from the start.
How to Choose a Wooden Bar Stool?
We recommend looking at three points to choose the right wooden bar stool. The first is the wood type and weight: a hard and kiln-dried wood is the foundation of longevity in a long-legged chair. The second is the back form; models with light backs are more comfortable for short-term use, while high-backed models are better for long sessions. The third is the polish tone; the color of the chair should be evaluated together with the countertop and kitchen cabinets.
Footrest and Seating Duration
Since feet do not touch the ground in a bar stool, the footrest bar is a crucial component of comfort. We recommend not ignoring this detail for kitchen islands and bar lines where long sessions are planned. In models with footrests, weight is distributed to the legs, and this difference becomes apparent as the sitting duration increases; in models without support, all weight remains on the seating surface. For short uses like breakfast, forms that prioritize simplicity are sufficient.
Polish Tone and Custom Production
One of the most frequently asked questions is about the polish tone. We can determine the polish color of our wooden bar stools according to your order; this is decisive when you want the stool to align with your kitchen cabinets or the edge of your counter. When deciding on the color, we recommend seeing the sample in the light of the venue itself, because the same polish reads differently in daylight and under spotlighting. For project work, we produce the entire quantity in the same tone.
Maintenance and Cleaning
Maintenance directly affects the lifespan of a wooden bar stool. We recommend wiping stains with a damp cloth or sponge without letting them sit, then drying with a dry cloth. Drying the surface immediately in case of liquid contact is important for protecting the polish and the wood. Keeping the chair away from direct sunlight protects the color; alcohol, bleach, and abrasive substances should be avoided during cleaning. For cane-backed models, removing dust between the weaves with a dry brush is sufficient.
Warranty
Our wooden bar stools are covered by a 2-year warranty and are offered with a one-to-one replacement guarantee, excluding user errors. For options at standard height, you can browse ourwooden chair models, and for seating groups to use in the same kitchen, you can check our other collections. For special polish tones and project requests, simply provide your counter height, the length of the island edge, and the number of pieces you need; we can determine the appropriate model and height together. Renewing the felt pads on the leg tips once a year protects both the floor and the joints.
