Armchair Models
An armchair is a single-seat, upholstered lounge chair with arms and back support; it transforms a corner of a room into a comfortable reading and relaxation area. As Kastra, the armchair models we have been producing since 2011 offer a wide spectrum ranging from classic forms with wooden frames to modern designs with swivel mechanisms. On this page, you will find armchair types, construction and upholstery options, and the points to consider when choosing the right model. You can contact us directly for your custom fabric and color requests.
What is an Armchair and Where is it Used?
An armchair is a singular piece that complements main seating units like sofas and settees. It provides additional seating next to a sofa, establishes a standalone reading nook, or creates a lounge area in a bedroom. If you would like to complement your seating group with armchairs, you can evaluate them alongside oursofa and armchairmodels. This page focuses on armchairs, which are singular and upholstered lounge chairs.
Armchair Types
Wooden, Upholstered, and Cane Armchairs
Armchair types are categorized by material and mechanism. Our wooden armchairs offer a classic and warm appearance with their kiln-dried 1st-class beech frames; the Meta model belongs to this group. For models like the Luffy and Nivaro, the frame is produced from kiln-dried hornbeam wood; hornbeam is also a type we prefer for seating frames due to its hard structure. Upholstered armchairs, on the other hand, provide a softer seat with their fabric or leather covering. Cane armchairs are suitable for spaces seeking a light and natural texture with their wicker detail.
Classic, Modern, Bohemian, and Sporty Armchairs
Armchair models also differentiate by style. Classic armchair forms with wooden details and high backs are suitable for traditional living rooms, while modern armchair models are suited to contemporary interiors with their simple lines. Bohemian armchair preferences, which highlight natural textures and comfortable seating, are established with materials like cane and linen. For those seeking a more dynamic stance, sporty armchair models stand out with their narrow and high back forms. Those looking for a colorful armchair can determine their fabric choice according to the palette of the space.
Swivel Armchair
Swivel armchairs are designed for areas where it is practical to change the seating direction. Models that can rotate 360 degrees, such as the Nivaro, allow you to turn easily between the television, window, and conversation area. This mechanism adds functionality, especially in multipurpose living rooms and study corners.
Dimensions and Price
Armchair Dimensions
Armchair dimensions determine whether the model will fit the space. Single armchair models generally offer seating for one person; arm width and seating depth vary from model to model. Small armchair models are more suitable for narrow living rooms, bedroom corners, and reading niches; compact forms, known as mini armchairs, provide additional seating in limited areas. We recommend measuring the area where the armchair will be placed before ordering and leaving clearance for passage around it. Checking the door width and staircase turns while taking measurements prevents surprises on the day of delivery.
Seat Height and Ease of Rising
Seat height is a dimension that is often overlooked in an armchair but directly determines comfort. In our Nivaro model, the seat height is around 42 cm. A low seat provides a more sunken and relaxing posture; however, it requires more support when standing up. A low seat can be preferred in a reading nook where you will be sitting for a long time. In homes with elderly users and in areas where people stand up frequently, such as hotel lobbies, we recommend models with higher seats.
Planning the Armchair with the Sofa
An armchair is placed not on its own, but as part of a seating arrangement. Positioning it opposite or at approximately a 45-degree angle to the sofa creates a natural layout for conversation. We recommend leaving enough space between the two seating units for comfortable passage; this gap is even more important for models where the armchair can swivel. Leaving the armchair a few centimeters away from the wall instead of pushing it completely against it allows the piece to stand as an independent unit.
Construction and Upholstery
Frame and Foam
Construction is the most important factor determining the comfort and lifespan of an armchair. In our wooden-framed armchairs, 1st-class beech wood with a moisture content reduced through kiln-drying is used; this structure reduces movement during moisture and temperature changes. The foam padding applied over the frame determines seating comfort, and foam density is directly effective in the armchair retaining its form over time. Since padding and polish processes are applied to wooden surfaces, the frame becomes resistant to scratches.
Upholstery: Fabric and Leather
Upholstery determines both the comfort and appearance of an armchair. We offer fabric and leather options, and we determine the upholstery according to the color and texture of your space. While fabrics like velvet and linen give a warm texture, leather provides an easier-to-clean surface. We provide fabric or leather replacement for upholstery and cushions as a service; this means that worn-out upholstery can be renewed without changing the frame.
What to Look for When Choosing Fabric?
The choice of fabric determines how many years the armchair will remain as it was on the first day. In an armchair used for a few hours a day at home, appearance and touch come to the fore; fabrics like velvet and linen can be easily preferred here. In areas where users constantly change, such as hotel lobbies and lounges, abrasion resistance and cleanability become decisive. For homes with pets, we recommend tightly woven fabrics that do not snag. When deciding on fabric, we advise you to see the sample in the actual light of the space.
When is Upholstery Renewal Necessary?
In an armchair, the first part to wear out while the frame remains sturdy is usually the upholstery. Arm ends, the front edge of the seating surface, and the shoulder level of the back are the areas with the most contact. Thinning of the texture at these points indicates that it is time for renewal. Since we change the upholstery and cushion fabric, it is not necessary to renew the entire armchair. In hotel and cafe projects, this is the most practical way to refresh the space between seasons.
Armchair Prices
Armchair prices vary according to the frame material, upholstery fabric, and mechanism. There is a difference between models with swivel mechanisms and fixed models, and between standard fabric and custom fabric options. Current single armchair prices and armchair seat prices are listed on the product cards.
Color and Fabric Options
Color and fabric options vary according to the model, and current options are listed on the product cards. You can determine the wood tone and upholstery fabric according to your order and keep the armchair in the same line as the sofas and armchairs in your living room. You can request the same model with different fabric or leather. If more than one armchair will be used in the living room, working with two tones from the same family instead of keeping both in the same fabric also yields a balanced result; this approach prevents the seating group from looking like a single piece.
Usage Areas
Where the armchair will be used largely determines the right model. Below, home use and business use are addressed separately.
Home Use
In home use, an armchair adds a personal relaxation corner to a room. It provides additional seating next to the sofa in the living room or establishes a standalone reading nook in front of a window. In the bedroom, an upholstered armchair creates a dressing or relaxation corner. An armchair placed next to a fireplace or bookshelf creates one of the most comfortable spots in the house. Swivel models are useful in areas where it is desired to change the seating direction.
Business and Project Use
In business and project use, an armchair is used in hotel lobbies, lounges, hotel rooms, and cafe relaxation areas. In these spaces, an armchair provides a comfortable lounge unit where guests can sit comfortably for a long time. In hotel and cafe projects, we can produce many armchairs in the same fabric and color and prepare custom upholstery for the space. Since we perform the production from start to finish ourselves, we can upholster the entire project to the same standard.
Custom Production
The real subject of custom production in an armchair is not the fabric, but the padding recipe. The foam density of the seat cushion determines whether the chair is firm or soft; in our Nivaro model, the seat is 35 DNS HR foam, and the back is goose down, and together these provide both support and softness. A firmer padding is preferred in a reading chair that will be sat in for long periods, while a softer padding is preferred for short-term use. According to your request, we determine the padding firmness, fabric, leather, and frame tone together.
Armchairs in HORECA Projects
In hotel and lounge projects, armchairs are planned in series rather than individually. The most frequently asked question in these projects is whether the same fabric can be found again a few years later. Since we perform the production from start to finish ourselves, we keep a record of the fabric and wood tone and can prepare the same combination again for later requests. This makes it easier to maintain the integrity of the space during partial renewals. Planning a few spares at the start of the project also provides similar assurance.
How to Choose an Armchair?
Selection Criteria
We recommend looking at a few concrete points to choose the right armchair. The first is the purpose of use: wooden or upholstered armchairs are suitable for a fixed reading nook, and swivel armchairs are suitable for areas where the seating direction will change. The second is comfort; upholstery and foam padding gain importance in armchairs where one will sit for a long time. The third is the upholstery and tone; fabric provides a warm texture, leather provides easy cleaning, and the wood tone provides harmony with the existing furniture in the living room.
Maintenance and Cleaning
Maintenance varies according to the material of the armchair. For upholstered surfaces, we recommend dry cleaning; cleaning suitable for the structure of the fabric extends the life of the surface. We recommend wiping the wooden frame with a damp cloth and drying it with a dry cloth. Keeping the armchair away from direct sunlight protects the texture and color; alcohol, bleach, and abrasive substances should be avoided during cleaning.
Production and Warranty
The armchair models we produce have a 2-year warranty and are offered with a one-to-one replacement guarantee excluding user errors. You can find current armchair models, fabric, and color options on the product cards.
