Office Chair Models
An office chair is the piece of furniture that determines seating comfort and posture during long hours spent at a desk. In home office setups and corporate workspaces, a well-chosen chair significantly reduces the fatigue felt at the end of the day. At Kastra, the office chair models we have been producing since 2011 are designed with back support and durable body structures. On this page, you will find model options and the points to consider when choosing the right chair.
Model Options
Our office chair models vary according to different usage styles. The Mart Stam S34 metal leather office chair offers a minimalist stance with its chrome-plated steel frame and natural leather seat and back surface; it measures 45.5x56x85 cm. Inspired by the 1926 cantilever chair form, this model is known for its ability to remain balanced without rear legs.
The Cesca office chair with arms combines a kiln-dried, first-class beech frame with a cane or upholstered seat. Adapted for desk use with its five-star wheeled base and height adjustment mechanism, it features a body width of 61 cm (including armrests), a seat height of 45 cm, and a backrest height of 28 cm; these measurements are provided in the product’s technical drawing. Models like Notos, with their sleek lines, integrate well into home office setups and do not make the room look like an office during off-hours.
Color and Upholstery Variants
The Cesca office chair with arms is available in natural, walnut, and black frame colors. The seat surface offers options in fabric, plain leather, ribbed leather, and tufted leather. Having so many variants on the same frame makes it easy to match the chair with your existing furniture. In open offices, choosing a single frame color while varying the upholstery by department is a practical method that provides both unity and differentiation between areas.
Difference Between an Office Chair and a Dining Chair
Although these two products may look similar, they are designed for different needs. A dining chair is designed for use during a meal, meaning an average of one hour, and features fixed legs. For office chairs, the sitting duration increases; therefore, height adjustment, a swivel base, and a wheeled structure take precedence. The most common choice for those setting up a home office is to pull an existing dining chair to the desk. This works for short-term use, but in a daily work routine, back and shoulder fatigue becomes noticeable quickly.
Areas of Use
Home Office Use
In a home office setup, the chair often sits in a corner of the living room or bedroom; therefore, appearance is more decisive than in an office setting. Models with cane and wood details are preferred in these layouts as they harmonize with the rest of the home's furniture. For a home office used for a few hours a day, height adjustment is sufficient. If the chair will also be used for other purposes in the evenings, choosing a form far from the office look prevents the room from being transformed into a workspace.
Office and Corporate Use
Priorities change in office use. The chair is used all day, often for over eight hours, and the users may vary. Therefore, the height adjustment mechanism must be easily accessible, and the upholstery must withstand frequent cleaning. In open offices, having numerous chairs in the same model and color gives a tidy appearance. In meeting rooms and shared workspaces, simpler, fixed-leg models may be sufficient.
Selection Criteria
With or Without Arms?
Arm support is a prominent distinction in choosing a desk chair. Models with arms reduce fatigue during long writing and reading tasks by providing elbow support. Armless models are more practical in narrow workspaces and settings where one gets up and sits down frequently, as they fit completely under the desk. Ensuring that the armrests do not collide with the desk surface height is a point to check during selection.
Need for Mobility
Ease of movement is the most important feature that distinguishes an office chair from a dining chair. The models in our collection feature swivel mechanisms and wheeled bases; the Mart Stam S34 and Cesca office chairs with arms are designed this way. A swivel office chair base allows you to change direction between the desk and a cabinet or shelf without straining your body. Wheeled office chair options make it easier to move back and forth at the desk.
Wheel Type and Flooring
Wheel selection should be based on the type of flooring. On hard surfaces like parquet and laminate, soft-surface wheels protect the floor and reduce noise. In carpeted offices, harder wheels ensure easy movement. For those who want to protect the floor, using a chair mat is a practical solution. Dust and hair that accumulate in the wheel housings make rotation difficult over time; we recommend cleaning them a few times a year.
Choosing According to the User
The user profile also affects the choice. For study and student office chairs, a form that supports the back during long study sessions and an easy-to-clean surface take precedence. In office chair setups, all-day usage and durability are the deciding factors. While light tones like white office chairs give a spacious look in small rooms, dark tones show marks less in daily use.
Material and Upholstery
Material and upholstery determine comfort and maintenance together. Our wood-framed models are produced from kiln-dried beech wood; in metal-framed models, the coating increases surface durability. There are leather, fabric, and cane options for the seat surface. In a chair where one sits for a long time, the breathability and ease of cleaning of the upholstery affect daily comfort.
Which Upholstery is Suitable for Whom?
Three types of upholstery cater to different needs. Leather surfaces are practical for busy offices as they can be cleaned by wiping with a damp cloth; however, their breathability is lower than fabric in hot weather. Fabric upholstery provides a breathable seat and is more comfortable for long hours. A cane-woven surface offers a natural texture and slight flexibility; it is preferred in home office setups and areas where appearance is a priority.
Harmony with the Desk
Harmony with the desk is a point often overlooked regarding office chairs. The difference between the seat height of the chair and the desk's surface height determines the elbow angle and shoulder posture. When used with a standard desk, a difference of approximately 30 cm provides a comfortable working angle. The height adjustment mechanism allows the same chair to be adapted to different desk heights. When choosing a chair, we recommend that you also evaluate ourdeskmodels to be used with it.
Back Support and Sitting Duration
Backrest height indicates the duration for which the chair is suitable. In the Cesca office version, the 28 cm backrest offers a compact form that supports the lumbar region; this is sufficient for setups where work is done close to the desk. For tasks spent in front of a screen all day, higher back forms that reach shoulder level are preferred. When sitting duration is under two hours, backrest height ceases to be a deciding criterion. The most practical way to tell if the backrest hits the lumbar region is to sit in the chair, lean back fully, and check if the lower back void is supported.
Measurements to Take Before Buying
Three measurements prevent most incompatibilities from the start. The first is the desk surface height; we recommend measuring this from the finished floor to the top surface of the desk. The second is the apron height of the desk, which is the clear space under the table; if you are choosing a model with armrests, you need to check if the armrests fit into this space. The third is the space the chair needs when pulled back. In small rooms, this third measurement is often overlooked, and the chair cannot be fully pulled out from the desk.
Work Setup in a Small Room
In small rooms, the space occupied by the chair can be more decisive than the desk. Since armless models fit completely under the desk, they also do not take up visual space when the room is empty. Wheeled bases make it easier to pull the chair aside in a tight space without lifting it. We recommend leaving at least enough space to take one step behind the chair; without this space, sitting and getting up requires pushing the desk every time.
Office Projects
In office projects, having numerous chairs in the same model and color provides a cohesive look in open offices. Because we handle the production from start to finish, we can produce chairs to the same standard for project-based work and can determine the upholstery fabric and frame color according to your request.
Meeting Rooms and Shared Areas
Not every chair in an office needs to be wheeled and adjustable. Adjustable models take precedence in individual workspaces where time spent at the desk is long. For meeting rooms and shared areas where people sit for short periods, simpler forms with fixed legs are suitable in terms of both cost and appearance. Using different base options from the same frame family is a practical way to establish this distinction without breaking the unity throughout the office.
Quantity and Renewal Plan
For office purchases, we recommend planning the entire requirement at once; the color tone is consistent in products from the same batch. Minor tonal differences may be seen in later additions. While the frame of an office chair remains sturdy, the first part to wear out is usually the upholstery. Since the upholstery can be renewed, it is not necessary to change the entire chair; this keeps the budget predictable for institutions.
Mechanism Maintenance
Height adjustment and the swivel base are the most moving parts of an office chair. For the longevity of these mechanisms, we recommend getting up to adjust the height rather than changing it while sitting on the chair. In wheeled bases, moving the chair by pushing rather than pulling reduces the load on the base arms. If there is loosening at the connection point between the frame and the base over time, it can be fixed by tightening.
Maintenance
Maintenance extends the life of the chair. We recommend wiping wood and metal surfaces with a damp cloth and drying them with a dry cloth. Dry cleaning is sufficient for fabric-upholstered models, and wiping with a damp cloth for leather surfaces. Alcohol, bleach, and abrasive substances should be avoided during cleaning; on leather surfaces, these materials lead to drying and cracking. For cane-woven surfaces, removing dust from between the weaves with a dry brush helps the texture remain tight for a long time.
