At Kastra, the coffee table models we have been producing since 2011 are prepared using different types of solid wood and in various forms. Size and Proportion in Coffee Table Selection
The first step in choosing a coffee table is the proportion it will establish with the seating group. The table should stand at a distance in the center of the sofas where everyone can easily reach; it should be neither too large to divide the seating group nor too small to be dysfunctional. The dimensions of the living room and the seating arrangement determine both the size and form of the table. The right size directly affects how functional the table will be in daily use.
Table Height and Its Relationship with Sofas
Height is the first dimension that determines whether the table is comfortable for daily use. The practical rule is: the tabletop should be level with the sofa seat or one to two centimeters below it. At this height, you do not need to lean forward to reach for a cup. We keep the table height in the 42-45 centimeter range for sets with a sofa seat height of 42-45 centimeters. When the table is significantly higher than the sofa, the living room also looks visually cramped.
Clearance for Passage in the Living Room
Even if the size is chosen correctly, the table makes daily use difficult if there is insufficient space around it. We recommend leaving 40-45 centimeters between the front edge of the sofa and the table; this distance is sufficient to stretch your legs without constriction. If there is passage behind or beside the table, this clearance increases to 60 centimeters. When you share your living room dimensions, we can calculate together which size fits these clearances.
Material and Surface
Solid Wood: Linden, Oak, Walnut
In our coffee tables, the body is produced from solid wood, and the type of wood determines both the appearance and the texture. Kiln-dried solid linden is used in the Bolero model; linden is suitable for simple and modern living rooms with its light tone and lightweight structure. In the Verona solid walnut model, the dark and rich grain of walnut adds depth to classic living rooms. Our Miasto solid oak model offers the balanced and warm tone of oak; Pozna, on the other hand, has a mixed construction that uses natural oak veneer and solid oak together. We recommend evaluating the wood type along with the existing furniture in your living room.
Filler, Polish, and Durability
A filler and polish process is applied to the surface to protect the wood. This process protects the surface against the liquid and stain contact frequently encountered on coffee tables and makes the wood scratch-resistant. Since it is a surface where cups, glasses, and decorative objects are constantly in contact, the polish serves both an aesthetic and a protective function. You can determine the polish color according to your order. When the surface becomes worn after years, it is possible to sand and re-polish the solid body; this is a practical advantage that allows you to renew the table instead of replacing it.
Form and Complementary Tables
Oval and Rectangular Form
The form of a coffee table is as decisive as the size of the room. Oval and round models like Bolero provide easy movement in narrow and transitional living rooms thanks to their structure without corners and give a softer look. Rectangular models, on the other hand, offer more surface area in front of large seating groups and create a symmetrical arrangement. In our solid coffee table series, dimensions range from 100x60 centimeters (Bolero) to 120x70 centimeters (Verona, Miasto, Pozna); there are also sizes other than these for square and round forms. We can perform custom production according to the size you want for some of our models, so you do not have to force a size that does not fit your living room. We recommend choosing cornerless forms if there are small children at home.
Side Tables and Nesting Tables
Types of tables are distinguished according to the function they will assume in the living room. While the coffee table in the middle of the seating group forms the main surface, a side table provides a small space next to the sofa for drinks and books. 3-piece nesting table sets are a flexible solution that can be multiplied when necessary with their interlocking structure; they are separated when guests arrive and look like a single piece normally. Long table forms offer more surface area in front of wide seating groups. In legged table models, the leg form is the detail that determines the character of the table.
Color and Size
Color and size determine the harmony of the table with your living room. You can determine the wood tone and the size of the table according to your order, keeping the table in line with the table, TV unit, or bookcase in your living room. Home Use
In home use, the coffee table is a part of daily life in the center of the living room. In small and medium-sized living rooms, oval or compact models both save space and facilitate passage. In large living rooms, rectangular models establish a balance proportional to the large seating group. Depending on the texture of the living room, solid linden offers a simple look, walnut a classic one, and oak a balanced one.
Commercial and Project Use
In commercial and project use, the coffee table is used in hotel lobbies, lounges, and café seating areas. In these venues, the table both complements seating groups and must withstand heavy use. A solid wood body is a long-lasting option in common areas used continuously. We can produce a large number of tables in the same size, material, and color for hotel and café projects.
Custom Size Production
Custom production for a table is usually requested not for a single piece, but for the entire room. Keeping the TV unit, bookcase, and table in the same tone family pulls the living room together; since we apply the polish tone ourselves, we can repeat the same tone on multiple pieces. We change the size, wood tone, and polish color according to your request. If you already have a Kastra product in your living room, we can prepare the new piece in the same tone by using tone records.
How to Choose a Coffee Table?
Selection Criteria
We recommend looking at a few concrete points to choose the right coffee table. The first is size: the table should be proportional to the seating group and at a distance where you can comfortably reach from the sofas. The second is form; oval or round models are more suitable for narrow and transitional living rooms, while rectangular models are more suitable for large living rooms. The third is material and color; since solid linden, oak, and walnut offer different tones and textures, they should be evaluated along with the existing furniture in your living room.
Maintenance and Cleaning
The two most common marks on a coffee table are the ring left by a hot cup and the fine scratches from the base of decorative objects. A ring mark arises from the temporary dulling of the polish due to heat; using a coaster for glasses and cups completely prevents this. We recommend sticking felt pads under objects that stand in the same place continuously, such as vases, trays, and figurines, because these objects leave circular marks on the surface as they are moved. When the surface becomes dull over the years, sanding and re-polishing the solid body restores the table to its first-day condition.
Delivery and Assembly
Coffee tables are mostly shipped as a single piece; transport is easier for models with removable legs. Since the product is heavy for models with solid bodies, we recommend checking the door width and staircase turns before ordering. Delivery is made to the building entrance. Checking that all four legs are in full contact with the floor after placement prevents the tabletop from wobbling over time; a thin adjustment shim placed under the leg on sloped floors solves this problem.
