Cane Chair Models
A cane chair is a type of chair recognized for its lightweight and breathable structure, featuring natural cane weaving on the backrest or seat surface. The woven surface combines the warmth of wood with a lighter appearance and does not create a closed-off impression around a dining table. The cane chair models we have been producing as Kastra since 2011 are crafted with kiln-dried beech frames and hand-woven netting. On this page, you will find model options, color alternatives, and points to consider when choosing the right chair.
What is Cane (Hazeran)?
Cane is a natural material prepared by weaving strips obtained from the rattan plant. Its open texture allows it to breathe, providing comfort at dining tables where one sits for long periods. The sturdiness of the frame to which the weaving is attached determines that the surface will not sag over time. For this reason, in our wooden cane chair models, the frame is produced from 1st-class beech wood with a moisture content reduced through kiln-drying.
Cane Chair Models
Cane chair models differ according to their form and body structure. In Cesca-line models, a beech frame is combined with a chrome-plated metal body; the Cesca cane chair measures 48x52x83 cm. In models like Sierra and Ode, the backrest is woven while the body is entirely wood. Oval-lined models like Aden offer a softer form. There are also versions of the same line with armrests, cushions, and bar heights; this allows the same form to be used both at the dining table and at a kitchen island.
Color and Polish Options
Color selection determines how the cane chair harmonizes with the space. Our models are offered with polish options such as natural, walnut, dark walnut, and black. While black cane chair choices create a contrast with dark furniture, natural tones provide a spacious look in natural and bright settings. Cane chairs can also be preferred in white and light tones; since polish colors can be determined upon order, you can keep the chair in the same tone as your table.
How is the Weaving Stretched?
What determines the quality of the cane surface is the stretching craftsmanship rather than the material itself. The strips are hand-woven onto the frame, and the tension must be equal across the entire surface. Weaving that remains loose in one area will sag there first when weight is applied. Since it is hand-crafted, it is normal to see small differences in the texture of every product; this is an indication that the weaving was prepared by human hands, not by a machine. A practical way to understand if the tension is done correctly is to feel an equal resistance when pressing the center of the surface.
Are Cane and Rattan the Same Thing?
These two names are often confused. Rattan is a plant that grows in tropical regions and its stem can be separated into strips. "Hazeran" (cane) is the name of the surface obtained by weaving these strips in a specific texture. In other words, rattan is the material, and cane is the weave made from that material. For this reason, the phrase "natural cane (rattan)" is used on our product pages. Plastic rattan-textured outdoor products are polypropylene surfaces that mimic the appearance of this material; they are not the same as natural cane.
Selection Based on Usage Intensity
Usage intensity should also be considered when choosing a cane chair model. Since the woven surface is a natural material, it is longer-lasting in closed environments with balanced humidity. Cushioned models provide usage that does not involve direct contact with the weave at tables where people sit for a long time. In high-traffic businesses, cushioned or upholstered variants may be more practical.
Body Structure: Wood or Metal?
Cane weaving is used in conjunction with two different body structures. In models with entirely wooden bodies, the beech frame is both the load-bearing element and a visual feature; it gives a warm and classic stance. In models of the Cesca line, a chrome-plated metal body carries the load, accompanying the wooden frame and the woven surface. The advantage of a metal body is that it can establish a robust structure with a slim profile; this makes the chair look visually lighter. The choice between the two structures is usually made according to the general language of the space.
Areas of Use
Home Use
In home use, a cane chair creates a natural texture in the dining room and kitchen. Thanks to its lightweight structure, it is easily moved and does not take up visual space in small dining areas. It can also be preferred for individual use in the living room. If it is to be used at a desk, we recommend cushioned variants due to the long sitting duration; use that does not involve direct contact with the woven surface both increases comfort and protects the texture.
Business Use
In business use, a cane chair is used in cafes and restaurants for a warm atmosphere. While the beech frame stands up to heavy use, the woven surface adds character to the venue. In project-based work, we can produce a large number of chairs in the same model and polish tone.
Cushioned or Plain?
This preference affects both comfort and the lifespan of the weaving. A plain woven surface preserves the lightness of the form and provides a cool seat in summer; it is preferred for decorative use and short sitting sessions. Cushioned variants add comfort to dining tables where one sits for long periods and protect the weave by distributing the weight across the surface. We recommend cushioned models for businesses because while a worn cushion cover can be replaced, renewing the weaving is more laborious. The fact that the cushion cover is removable significantly facilitates cleaning.
Humidity and Environmental Conditions
Since cane is a natural material, it reacts to ambient humidity. In very dry environments, the weave can become brittle over time, and in constantly humid environments, it can slacken. The normal humidity range of homes and indoor business premises is suitable for this material. The color of the weave fades in front of windows receiving direct sunlight; we recommend keeping the chair away from this location if possible. In outdoor areas like open terraces and gardens, models produced for outdoor use should be used instead of natural cane.
Delivery and Initial Inspection
Chairs are delivered to the building entrance. We recommend checking the tension of the woven surface and the polish tone in daylight upon delivery. For high-volume purchases, opening the products at the same time and comparing the tones side-by-side is the most practical way to see consistency. If there is a shipping-related issue, reporting it in the first few days speeds up the resolution.
Maintenance
Maintenance directly affects the lifespan of the weave. We recommend cleaning dust from the cane surface regularly, not leaving it wet, and keeping it away from direct sunlight. You can wipe stains on wooden parts with a damp cloth and dry them with a dry cloth without waiting. Alcohol, bleach, and abrasive substances should be avoided during cleaning.
Projects and Bulk Purchases
In cafe and restaurant projects, a cane chair adds a natural character to the space while also requiring a maintenance plan. We recommend cushioned variants in high-traffic halls. We advise you to plan the entire requirement at once so that a large number of chairs have the same polish tone; minor tone differences may appear in later additions. Since we do the production ourselves, we keep records of tones and can prepare the same combination again for completion requests. Keeping a few spares at the beginning of the season is also a practical solution for businesses.
Cane Chair Prices
Cane chair prices vary according to the body material, weaving craftsmanship, and cushion selection. There is a difference between variants with armrests and cushions versus plain models; special polish tone requests are also among the factors that affect the price. Current cane chair models, dimensions, and prices are listed on the product cards. For your project requests, it is sufficient to send the dimensions of your space and the quantity required.
Warranty
The wooden chairs we produce are guaranteed for 2 years and are offered with a one-to-one exchange assurance, excluding user errors; fabric or leather changes are made on upholstery and cushions.
