Kitchen Table Models
A kitchen table is one of the most frequently used surfaces in a home; it serves its purpose all day long, from breakfast to dinner, from children's homework to meal preparation. As Kastra, the kitchen table models we have been producing since 2011 are crafted with solid wood bodies and durable surface finishes to withstand this intensive daily use. On this page, you will find information about our material structure, choosing the right shape according to your kitchen's dimensions, and key points to consider when selecting the perfect table. We can determine your custom measurement requests together based on your kitchen.
Kitchen Table or Dining Table?
The fundamental difference between a kitchen table and a dining table is the way they are used. A kitchen table is for daily, frequent, and practical use; its surface must withstand liquids, hot pots, and constant cleaning. For large guest gatherings and formal dining room arrangements, ourdining tablemodels are more suitable. This page focuses on tables suited to the daily rhythm of the kitchen and the measurements to look for when choosing them.
Material and Surface
Solid Wood: Linden and Oak
Our kitchen tables are produced from solid wood. The tree species we use include linden and oak; while linden provides a lighter and simpler tone, oak offers a more pronounced grain texture and a balanced color. Solid wood is much more long-lasting than laminate surfaces under years of daily use and can be refurbished in case of scratches or impacts. The weight and texture of the table vary according to the type of wood; we recommend choosing based on the color of your kitchen cabinets.
Protective Varnish and Surface Durability
We apply a protective varnish to the surface to preserve the wood. This treatment protects the surface against contact with liquids and stains, the most common issues with kitchen tables; if spilled water or oil is wiped away promptly, it will not penetrate the wood. Nevertheless, wiping the surface with a dry cloth immediately after liquid contact will extend the life of the varnish. Avoiding the placement of hot pots and pans directly on the table and using a trivet will also protect the surface.
Choosing Form and Measurement
Round and Rectangular
In a kitchen, the form is as crucial as the dimensions. Thanks to their cornerless structure, round tables allow for easy movement in narrow kitchens and transition areas; they also allow more people to sit at the same diameter without feeling crowded. Our round models, like the Lester, are designed for this need. Rectangular tables, on the other hand, use space more efficiently in long and narrow kitchens because they can be placed against a wall or counter. We can evaluate together which form is suitable according to your kitchen's layout; sharing the measurements of the short and long sides of your kitchen will make this decision easier.
How Many Seats Are Needed?
Measurement in the kitchen is more critical than in the dining room because space for movement is limited. In our project planning, we base our calculations on approximately 60 cm of table edge per person. For daily use by four people, a rectangular table 70-80 cm wide is sufficient for most kitchens. For round tables, the calculation is made based on the circumference, and generally, one extra person can fit in the same area. For large families, an extendable table is more practical than getting a larger one.
Clearance Around the Table
The clearance around the table in the kitchen is as defining as the table size itself. We recommend leaving approximately 90 cm between the table edge and cabinets or walls to allow the chair to be pulled back. This distance should be slightly increased in kitchens where there is a walkway behind the chair. When taking measurements, it is also necessary to consider the space occupied by cabinet doors and the oven door when opened; even if the table size is correct, an opening door can hinder daily use.
Color and Leg Detail
Color and leg detail determine how well the table harmonizes with the kitchen. You can determine the wood tone and leg form according to your order, keeping the table in line with your kitchen cabinets or chairs. Current models, measurements, and color options are listed on product cards; special shade requests are determined during the ordering stage.
Can the Surface Be Renewed?
This is the most significant advantage of solid wood over laminate and veneered surfaces. Scratches and dull areas that accumulate over the years can be removed with light sanding and re-varnishing; the table will look almost like it did on the first day. This process is limited on thin-veneer surfaces because the veneer layer cannot withstand sanding. Since a kitchen table is a surface used several times a day, this renewability makes a significant difference in the long run.
Usage Areas
Where and how the kitchen table will be used largely determines the right model. Home use and commercial use are addressed separately below.
Home Use
For home use, the kitchen table is used many times a day, and priority is given to practicality. In small and medium-sized kitchens, round or compact rectangular tables both save space and facilitate daily use. In homes with an island kitchen, the table can be positioned as an extension of the counter. The main factor at home is the right size that fits the kitchen's dimensions and a surface that is easy to clean.
Commercial and Project Use
For commercial and project use, kitchen tables are mostly preferred in places like hostel kitchens, office kitchens, and staff dining areas. In these areas, durability and easy cleaning are priorities. For high-traffic cafe and restaurant dining rooms, our collections specifically produced for this purpose, such ascafe tablesandbar tablesare more suitable. In project-based jobs, we can produce a large number of tables in the same size and color; planning the entire requirement at once also ensures color consistency.
Placement in Narrow Kitchens
In narrow kitchens, the position of the table can be more decisive than its size. A rectangular table placed against a wall leaves three sides usable and keeps the transition corridor open. A round table placed in a corner utilizes two walls simultaneously. We advise against placing a table directly opposite the counter line; this is where the most intense movement occurs in the kitchen, and the table creates an obstacle here. Observing how you move around the kitchen during the day before taking measurements makes the placement decision easier.
Height Compatibility with Chairs
The table surface height in a standard kitchen table is around 75 cm; the matching chair seat height is approximately 45 cm. The 30 cm difference allows legs to comfortably fit under the table top. If you are going to use a chair with armrests, we recommend measuring the apron height of the table to check if the armrest will fit underneath. If you are planning to use it at the height of an island kitchen counter, the measurements change completely; in this case, a bar-height solution is more appropriate.
Custom Size Production
The reason for custom production in the kitchen is almost always the same: the space where the table will sit does not fit standard dimensions. Counter overhangs, columns, and door openings make a few centimeters matter in the kitchen. We can change the leg form and cutting dimensions according to these constraints, and when necessary, we plan the table so that one side is placed against a wall or an island. If you share the exact dimensions of your kitchen, we can determine together which form fits.
How to Choose a Kitchen Table?
Selection Criteria
We recommend looking at a few concrete points to choose the right kitchen table. The first is measurement: the area where the table will be placed should be measured along with the space required for chairs to be pulled back comfortably. The second is form; round tables are more efficient in narrow and high-traffic kitchens, while rectangular tables are better for wall-aligned layouts. The third is material and color; since linden and oak offer different tones and textures, they should be evaluated along with your kitchen cabinets.
Care and Cleaning
Care directly affects the life of the kitchen table because this table is constantly exposed to liquids and food. We recommend wiping the wood surface with a damp cloth without letting stains sit, then drying it with a dry cloth. Wiping the surface immediately upon liquid contact is important for protecting both the varnish and the wood. Keeping the table away from direct sunlight preserves the texture; alcohol, bleach, and abrasive substances should be avoided during cleaning, and a cutting board must be used for any cutting operations.
Production and Warranty
The wooden kitchen tables we produce are offered with a direct replacement guarantee, excluding user errors. The warranty period varies according to the model; our solid linden Lester model has a 2-year warranty, and some of our oak models have a 5-year warranty. The duration for each model is stated on the product card. You can find current models, sizes, and color options on the product cards and create a cohesive kitchen layout by evaluating them together with ourkitchen chairmodels. For your custom size and form requests, if you share your kitchen dimensions and how many people you plan to accommodate, we can determine the suitable solution for you together.
