Table Leg Models
A table leg is the part that determines a table's support and character; the right leg defines both the durability and the appearance of your table. At Kastra, the table leg models we have been producing since 2011 are prepared in different materials and forms, ranging from designer wooden legs to cast iron and aluminum legs. On this page, you will find table leg types, their compatibility with tabletops, assembly details, and points to consider when choosing the right leg. We can determine your special size requests together, especially for your cafe and restaurant projects.
Why are Table Legs Selected Separately from the Tabletop?
A table leg is usually selected separately from its tabletop, which provides significant flexibility. You can pair your own tabletop with a wooden, marble, or glass surface and set up your table according to your needs. This distinction is especially advantageous for cafe and restaurant businesses; when the tabletop wears out over time or the concept changes, the tabletop can be renewed while the leg is preserved. If you are looking for a complete table, you can move on to ourtableanddining tablemodels; this page is for those who want to set up their table with their own tabletop.
Table Leg Types and Features
Wooden, Cast Iron, and Aluminum Legs
Table leg types are categorized by material, and each type offers a different usage and appearance. Wooden and designer legs provide a warm and unique look; legs bearing the Kilit Taşı Design signature, such as Ivy, add character to the table with their form. Metal and cast iron legs create a durable support in high-traffic cafe and restaurant venues. Aluminum legs, with their lightweight structure, are an easy-to-move option that can be used both indoors and outdoors.
Adjustable Structure
An adjustable structure is a significant advantage in choosing a table leg. The Ivy table leg consists of two pieces, and the distance between them can be adjusted to fit table tops of different sizes. This allows a single leg to be used with different tabletop dimensions, and the leg continues to be compatible even if the tabletop changes over time. This flexibility is a reason for preference in both long-term use and changing needs.
Dimensions and Height
Dimensions and height determine the leg's compatibility with the tabletop. Legs suitable for the standard dining table height provide a comfortable seating height when a tabletop is added; for example, the Ivy table leg is 73.5 centimeters high and reaches the standard table height together with the tabletop thickness. For higher uses such as bar counters, legs of different heights are preferred. We can evaluate the size selection together based on the tabletop you will use; sharing the tabletop thickness also ensures that we calculate the final table height correctly from the start.
Single Leg or Four Legs?
The number of legs directly determines how many people can sit comfortably around the table. In single center-leg models, chairs can be placed freely around the tabletop; there is no issue with seating spots coinciding with a corner leg. This structure provides an advantage, especially for round tabletops and cafe layouts. Four-legged models stand more stably on large and heavy tabletops because they establish a wider base. For long rectangular tabletops, two-legged sled systems leave the sides completely free.
Tabletop Weight and Balance
The point most often overlooked when choosing a leg is the weight of the tabletop. Surfaces like marble and travertine are several times heavier than a wooden tabletop of the same size; for these tabletops, the base diameter and leg cross-section become more decisive. The center of gravity of the tabletop must remain within the base of the leg, otherwise, the table will wobble when weight is applied to the edge. If you share the tabletop size and material, we can determine the appropriate leg together.
Which Use Requires How Many Centimeters?
Leg height is determined by the intended use of the table. For standard dining and work tables, the top surface of the tabletop is around 75 cm; the tabletop thickness should be subtracted from this figure when choosing the leg height. For tables to be used at island kitchen counter levels, approximately 90 cm is targeted, and for bar layouts, 105-110 cm. For low uses such as coffee tables and center tables, the measurements are completely different. Determining which height you will work at from the start allows you to plan your tabletop order correctly as well.
Color and Coating
Color and coating complete the leg's harmony with the table as a whole. You can determine the tone for wooden legs and the paint color for metal and cast iron legs according to your order. In cast iron legs, special baked paint protects the surface against weather conditions outdoors. Current models, dimensions, and color options are listed on product cards; special color requests are evaluated during the ordering stage.
Areas of Use
Where the table leg will be used largely determines the right type. Below, residential use and business use are addressed separately.
Residential Use
In residential use, a table leg is chosen to set up a custom table with a special top or to renew an existing table. You can create a unique dining table by pairing a marble or solid wood tabletop with a designer leg. Adjustable legs provide flexibility for use with tabletops of different sizes at home.
Business and Project Use (Cafe, Restaurant)
In business and project use, the table leg is the fundamental part of cafe and restaurant furniture. Businesses supply tabletops and legs separately to set up many tables economically and flexibly. In high-traffic venues, cast iron and metal legs provide a cost advantage through their durability and the ability to keep the leg while the tabletop is replaced. In cafe and restaurant projects, we can produce many legs in the same model and height; even if different tabletop sizes are used within the hall, keeping the leg family consistent maintains visual integrity.
Leg-Tabletop Economy for Businesses
In a business with many tables, the economy of supplying the leg and tabletop separately reveals itself over time. The tabletop is the part of the table that wears out the fastest: hot cups, spilled drinks, and constant daily wiping accumulate on the surface. The leg, however, mostly remains intact over the same period. At the point of wear, renewing only the tabletop is significantly more economical than replacing the whole table. During a concept change, it is also possible to switch to a different tabletop material on the same leg.
Stock and Completion
We recommend planning your quantity for leg orders together with your tabletop plan. The paint tone remains consistent in legs coming from the same batch; minor tone differences may be seen in later additions. Keeping a few spare legs in businesses allows you to continue operation without taking the table out of service in case of damage. In projects where special colors are used, planning this spare margin from the beginning becomes even more important.
Custom Production
Custom production for table legs starts with the weight-bearing capacity for the tabletop. A thick solid or marble tabletop will not remain stable on a thin-profile leg; therefore, we make the leg selection based on the weight and surface area of the tabletop. We determine the dimension, height, and color according to the order, and for those renewing an existing tabletop, we open the connection hole locations according to the tabletop. Sharing the size and weight of the tabletop you have is sufficient for us to choose the right leg.
Assembly and Tabletop Connection
The way the leg connects to the tabletop determines the long-term balance of the table. The connection plate must sit perfectly under the tabletop, and the screws must be selected according to the tabletop thickness; a screw that is too long might pierce through the tabletop surface, while one that is too short will not provide sufficient grip. Since drilling cannot be performed on marble and glass tabletops, these surfaces work with different connection methods. Sharing your tabletop material from the start allows us to determine the appropriate connection solution together.
Floor and Leg Tips
The floor type affects both the lifespan of the leg and daily use. In cafe and restaurant floors that are washed frequently, the base material being water-resistant is decisive; a base constantly in contact with moisture will leave marks over time. On parquet and laminate floors, the protective tips on the leg ends protect the surface against scratches. For sloped terrace floors, we recommend checking that all contact points sit perfectly on the ground after installation.
How to Choose a Table Leg?
Selection Criteria
We recommend looking at a few concrete points to choose the right table leg. The first is the tabletop size and weight: the leg must be suitable for the size and weight of the tabletop it will carry. The second is the area of use; cast iron and metal stand out for heavy commercial use, while wooden legs come to the fore for home and design-oriented use. The third is height; different leg heights are required for dining tables, work desks, and bar counters.
Renewing an Existing Table
A table leg is used not only for setting up a new table but also for renewing a table you already have. Replacing the leg on a table whose top is sturdy but whose leg is worn or whose form has become outdated is much more economical than renewing the table entirely. In this case, it is sufficient to share the thickness of the existing tabletop, its size, and the position of the connection holes underneath. We can maintain the final height of the table by calculating the leg height according to the tabletop thickness.
Maintenance and Cleaning
Maintenance varies according to the leg's material. We recommend wiping wooden legs with a damp cloth and drying them with a dry cloth without letting stains sit. Metal and cast iron legs are also cleaned with a damp cloth. Keeping wooden legs away from direct sunlight preserves the texture; alcohol, bleach, and abrasive substances should be avoided during cleaning.
Production and Warranty
We offer a free repair and replacement guarantee against manufacturing defects on the table legs we produce. You can find current models, dimensions, and color options on the product cards; you can determine the solution that suits your needs by evaluating them together with ourbar tablemodels.
